HOUSE BILL NO. 70

COURTS:  Provides for a mayor's court in the village of Creola
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 33:455, relative to mayors' courts; to establish a mayor's court in the village
3 of Creola in Grant Parish; to provide for the territorial jurisdiction of the court; to
4 provide for the powers and authority of the mayor as magistrate of the court and
5 other officers of the court; to provide relative to subject matter jurisdiction of the
6 court; and to provide for related matters.
7Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
8 Section 1.  R.S. 33:455 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
9 ยง455.  Mayor's court, village of Creola; establishment; jurisdiction
10	A.  There is hereby created the Mayor's Court of the Village of Creola, the
11 territorial jurisdiction of which shall extend throughout the village of Creola in Grant
12 Parish.
13	B.  The general provisions of R.S. 33:441 and 442 shall be applicable to and
14 shall govern and regulate the Mayor's Court of the Village of Creola, the jurisdiction
15 of the court, and the power and authority of the mayor and other officers of the court.
16 Section 2.  This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
17signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
18by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana.  If
19vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
20effective on the day following such approval.

Abstract: Establishes the Mayor's Court of the Village of Creola in Grant Parish.
Proposed law creates a mayor's court for the village of Creola and provides that the territorial
jurisdiction of the court shall extend throughout the village of Creola in Grant Parish.
Proposed law provides that the general law applicable to mayors' courts also applies to the
Mayor's Court of the Village of Creola, the jurisdiction of the court, and the power and
authority of the mayor and other officers of the court.
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
