COURTS/COURT COSTS: Provides for the collection and disposition of certain court
costs.
DIGEST
Present law provides for fees for the Twelfth Judicial District.
Proposed law retains present law and adds provisions for an additional initial civil petition
filing fee of $10 in the Twelfth Judicial District, allocation and deposit of the monies into the
Avoyelles Parish Courthouse Security Fund, and utilization of the fees. Provides that the new
fee is contingent upon review and approval of the Judicial Council of the Supreme Court of
Louisiana.
Present law provides for court costs in criminal and juvenile matters.
Proposed law retains present law. Provides for additional court costs in the amount of $10
to the 19

Judicial District Court Building Commission or $10 to the Juvenile Court of East
Baton Rouge Parish, as applicable.
Proposed law adds additional court cost in the Nineteen Judicial District Court or the
Juvenile Court authorized by proposed law which will expire on or after Aug. 1, 2021.
Present law provides for certain fees in mayor's courts.
Proposed law retains present law and adds provisions that fees levied in certain mayor's
courts in excess of $10 per offense shall be optional.
The additional filing fee in Section 1 of the Act for the Twelfth Judicial District shall become
effective upon the review and approval of the Judicial Council of the Supreme Court of the
Louisiana. The provisions relative to additional criminal fees in the Nineteenth Judicial
District Court and the Juvenile Court of East Baton Rouge Parish (Section 2) which
terminate August 1, 2021, shall be repealed upon that date. All other Sections of the Act (3,
4, 6, and 7) shall become effective upon August 1, 2016.

bill:
1. Add that no defendant shall be assessed costs pursuant to proposed law in excess
of $10.

1. Add that the additional court cost under proposed law will expire on or after Aug.
1, 2021.
