[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 778 Original 2016 Regular Session Hill Abstract: Requires a two-person crew on trains transporting freight. Proposed law prohibits the operation in this state of a railroad train or light engine used in connection with the movement of freight without a crew consisting of a minimum of two individuals. Proposed law excludes hostler service or utility employees from the term "railroad train or light engine used in connection with the movement of freight". Proposed law provides for the assessment of penalties for a violation of proposed law against a railroad or its supervisor as follows: (1)Not less than $500 nor more than $1,000 for the first violation. (2) Not less than $1,000 nor more than $5,000 for a second violation committed within a three- year period. (3)Not less than $5,000 nor more than $10,000 for a third and subsequent violation committed within a three-year period. Proposed law provides for enforcement by the Public Service Commission and the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections, office of state police. (Adds R.S. 45:570)
