Abstract:  Provides for continued review of the state content standards in English language arts and
math by the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE).
Present law provides relative to the review, development, and implementation of state content
standards in English language arts and math. Provides time lines for such review by  BESE and
provides for adoption of the standards by BESE by March 4, 2016.  Requires BESE to promulgate
the standards in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act (APA).  Further requires BESE
to revise the standards if  the governor suspends or vetoes the rules for the standards.
 
Proposed law adds a requirement that, not later than Jan. 15, 2017, BESE shall begin to conduct a
review of the standards developed and adopted pursuant to present law to determine the effectiveness
of such standards and to make any necessary revisions to the standards.  Requires the board to
promulgate the revised standards in accordance with the APA.  Otherwise retains present law.
