PORTS/SOUTH LOUISIANA: Increases the membership of the Port of South Louisiana
Commission
1 AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 34:2471(A)(introductory paragraph), (6), (7), and (8) and to
3 enact R.S. 34:2471(A)(9), relative to the Port of South Louisiana Commission; to
4 increase the membership on the commission; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 34:2471(A)(introductory paragraph), (6), (7), and (8) are hereby
7amended and reenacted and R.S. 34:2471(A)(9) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
8 ยง2471. Creation; membership
9 A. There is hereby created the Port of South Louisiana, as a political
10 subdivision of the state, with jurisdictional authority encompassing the geographical
11 boundaries of the parishes of St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, and St. James. The
12 Port of South Louisiana shall be governed by a board of seven nine members who
13 shall be appointed as follows:

15 (6) Two members, each of whom is a resident of a parish within the
16 territorial jurisdiction of the port, shall be appointed by the governor at his sole
17 discretion.
18 (6) (7) From the nominees submitted to the governor for appointment he
19 shall select one resident from each parish located within the territorial jurisdiction
20 of the port, one of whom may, instead of residency, be the chief executive officer of
21 a business which is principally operated within such parish.
22 (7) (8) Each appointment shall be submitted to the Senate for confirmation.

1 (8) (9) The terms of all commissioners shall be concurrent with that of the
2 governor. Any subsequent vacancy on the commission for any reason shall be filled
3 for the unexpired portion of the term in the same manner as the original appointment.

Abstract: Increases the membership of the Port of South La. Commission from seven
members to nine members.
Present law provides that the Port of South La. Commission shall be governed by a board
of seven members.
Proposed law increases the membership to nine by adding two additional members appointed
by the governor at his sole discretion.
Proposed law specifies that the two additional members appointed by the governor must be
residents of the parishes of St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, or St. James.
(Amends R.S. 34:2471(A)(intro. para.), (6), (7), and (8); Adds R.S. 34:2471(A)(9))
