HLS 16RS-1792 ORIGINAL 2016 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 988 BY REPRESENTATIVE ARMES VETERANS: Provides relative to Louisiana Military Family Assistance 1 AN ACT 2To amend and reenact R.S. 46:121(1), relative to Louisiana Military Family Assistance; to 3 provide for the meaning of "activated military personnel"; and to provide for related 4 matters. 5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. R.S. 46:121(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 7 ยง121. Definitions 8 For purposes of this Part, the following terms shall be defined as follows: 9 (1) "Activated military personnel" means a person domiciled in Louisiana 10 for civilian purposes, names Louisiana as Home of Residence (HOR) for military 11 purposes, and who is a member of any of the following: 12 (a) A reserve component of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, 13 Marine Corps, or Coast Guard, including the Louisiana National Guard, and called 14 to active federal service in excess of thirty days; or. 15 (b) The Louisiana National Guard and called to active state service pursuant 16 to R.S. 29:7. 17 (c) A veteran of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, as 18 defined in Paragraph (4) of this Section. 19 * * * Page 1 of 2 CODING: Words in struck through type are deletions from existing law; words underscored are additions. Present law provides for the La. Military Family Assistance Fund. Money in the fund is used to provide certain need-based claims of family members of activated military personnel, transportation and "other" costs of activated personnel and veteran outreach programs. This money also funds costs associated with the program's administration. Present law provides that "activated military personnel" includes a person domiciled in Louisiana for civilian purposes, names Louisiana as Home of Residence, and is a reserve member of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard, including the Louisiana National Guard called to active federal service in excess of 30 days or called to active state service. Proposed law provides that "activated military personnel" also includes veterans of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard.
