[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 988 Original 2016 Regular Session Armes Abstract: Provides that the definition of "activated military personnel" includes veterans of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard. Present law provides for the La. Military Family Assistance Fund. Money in the fund is used to provide certain need-based claims of family members of activated military personnel, transportation and "other" costs of activated personnel and veteran outreach programs. This money also funds costs associated with the program's administration. Present law provides that "activated military personnel" includes a person domiciled in Louisiana for civilian purposes, names Louisiana as Home of Residence, and is a reserve member of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard, including the Louisiana National Guard called to active federal service in excess of 30 days or called to active state service. Proposed law provides that "activated military personnel" also includes veterans of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard. (Amends R.S. 46:121(1))
