DRUGS/PRESCRIPTION:  Establishes the Commission on Preventing Opioid Abuse
Report adopts Senate amendments to:
1. Add the following members or their designees to the commission:  the president of the La.
State Coroner’s Association, the president of the La. Osteopathic Medical Association, the
president of the La. Association of Self Insured Employers, and the president of the La.
Academy of Physician Assistants.
2. Require the commission to evaluate and make recommendations to address the impact of
opioid abuse on pregnant women.
3. Change the co-chair responsibilities from the Dept. of  Health and Hospitals and the La. State
Medical Society to the La. State Board of Medical Examiners and La. Board of Pharmacy.
4. Make technical corrections. 
Report amends the bill to:
1. Require a copy of the Resolution be delivered to the executive director of the Louisiana State
Board of Medical Examiners and the executive director of the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.
Digest of the bill as proposed by the Conference Committee
Establishes the La. Commission on Preventing Opioid Abuse to study and make recommendations
regarding both short-term and long-term measures that can be taken to tackle prescription opioid and
heroin abuse and addiction in La.
Requires the commission to provide a report of its initial findings and recommendations to the
governor and the Legislature of Louisiana no later than Feb. 1, 2017.
