COMMENDATIONS: Commends the 2016 Florien High School Lady Blackcats softball
team upon winning its fourth consecutive Class B state championship
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To commend the 2016 Florien High School Lady Blackcats softball team upon winning its
3 fourth consecutive Class B state championship.
4 WHEREAS, on Saturday, April 30, 2016, the first seed Florien High School Lady
5Blackcats emerged victorious over second seed Holden at the Louisiana High School
6Athletic Association (LHSAA) Fast Pitch 56 state softball tournament; and
7 WHEREAS, the 7-0 title game victory brought the Lady Blackcats their fourth
8consecutive state softball championship, capping a sensational season of twenty-three wins
9against five losses; and
10 WHEREAS, the Florien High School champions were led by Class B Most Valuable
11Player Abbey McMillian in the pitcher spot; she finished the game with twelve strikeouts
12and limited Florien's opponent to only four hits; and
13 WHEREAS, under the guidance of head coach Bruce Stewart and his assistants, Clay
14Corley, Kelvin Matthews, and Chris Tidwell, McKenzie Alford, Emalee Anthony, Sydney
15Anthony, Meghan Burkett, Whitney Byles, Alexis Combs, Caitlyn Corley, Macy Corley,
16Emma Davis, Kaitlin Davis, Lauren Dees, Caroline Matthews, Bailey McCleary, Hanah
17Hall, Delana Johnson, MaKayla Jordan, Summer Jordan, Abbey McMillian, Savannah Perry,
18Elizabeth Richwine, Ryleigh Rutherford, Annaliese Sylvia, Gracie Sylvia, and Haylee
19Tidwell exhibited skill beyond measure and unwavering discipline in achieving the ultimate
20honor afforded to a high school girls' softball team in Louisiana; team managers Maddie

1Chreene, Cesaleigh Hall, and Gracie Rutherford provided the season-long support necessary
2to achieve yet another championship feat; and
3 WHEREAS, the 2016 LHSAA Class B state title was won through the hard work and
4dedication of players and coaches alike, and it is fitting to express congratulations to the
5athletes, staff, and head coach Bruce Stewart for the merits won and the pride shown by the
6girls' softball team in its outstanding 2016 championship season.
7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
8commend and congratulate the 2016 Florien High School girls' softball team for winning its
9fourth consecutive Class B state championship and does hereby recognize the outstanding
10pride and honor the Lady Blackcats have brought to their school and community.
11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
12to head coach Bruce Stewart.
