HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 116
BY REPRESENTATIVE HOWARD AND SENATOR LONG
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend the 2016 Florien High School Lady Blackcats softball team upon winning its
fourth consecutive Class B state championship.
WHEREAS, on Saturday, April 30, 2016, the first seed Florien High School Lady
Blackcats emerged victorious over second seed Holden at the Louisiana High School
Athletic Association (LHSAA) Fast Pitch 56 state softball tournament; and
WHEREAS, the 7-0 title game victory brought the Lady Blackcats their fourth
consecutive state softball championship, capping a sensational season of twenty-three wins
against five losses; and
WHEREAS, the Florien High School champions were led by Class B Most Valuable
Player Abbey McMillian in the pitcher spot; she finished the game with twelve strikeouts
and limited Florien's opponent to only four hits; and
WHEREAS, under the guidance of head coach Bruce Stewart and his assistants, Clay
Corley, Kelvin Matthews, and Chris Tidwell, McKenzie Alford, Emalee Anthony, Sydney
Anthony, Meghan Burkett, Whitney Byles, Alexis Combs, Caitlyn Corley, Macy Corley,
Emma Davis, Kaitlin Davis, Lauren Dees, Caroline Matthews, Bailey McCleary, Hanah
Hall, Delana Johnson, MaKayla Jordan, Summer Jordan, Abbey McMillian, Savannah Perry,
Elizabeth Richwine, Ryleigh Rutherford, Annaliese Sylvia, Gracie Sylvia, and Haylee
Tidwell exhibited skill beyond measure and unwavering discipline in achieving the ultimate
honor afforded to a high school girls' softball team in Louisiana; team managers Maddie
Chreene, Cesaleigh Hall, and Gracie Rutherford provided the season-long support necessary
to achieve yet another championship feat; and
WHEREAS, the 2016 LHSAA Class B state title was won through the hard work and
dedication of players and coaches alike, and it is fitting to express congratulations to the

athletes, staff, and head coach Bruce Stewart for the merits won and the pride shown by the
girls' softball team in its outstanding 2016 championship season.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate the 2016 Florien High School girls' softball team for winning its
fourth consecutive Class B state championship and does hereby recognize the outstanding
pride and honor the Lady Blackcats have brought to their school and community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to head coach Bruce Stewart.
