CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Elmer "Bigg Nokey"

1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To express the condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Elmer "Bigg
3 Nokey" Henderson of Shreveport.
4 WHEREAS, the members of the legislature were saddened to learn of the death
5Tuesday, May 10, 2016, of Elmer "Bigg Nokey" Henderson; and
6 WHEREAS, Bigg Nokey was famous for barbecue, smoked Nokey burgers, and his
7renowned Nokey Rotel; he ran an eatery from his yard on Ice Cream Street from which he
8served up delicious food and provided catering services; and
9 WHEREAS, Bigg Nokey was the most popular vendor at the annual Let the Good
10Times Roll Festival in downtown Shreveport; he was called a born restauranteur, a gifted
11chef, and the best networker to ever walk the earth; and
12 WHEREAS, Elmer "Bigg Nokey" Henderson was the youngest of three siblings and
13was the father of four beloved sons; and
14 WHEREAS, NFL Hall of Famer Deion "Prime Time" Sanders paid Bigg Nokey a
15visit to taste his delectable Southern cooking and shortly after sampling the food, posted on
16Instagram this rave review: "Bigg Nokey BBQ puts it down on the grill. Shreveport I know
17yall already know Prime came to the hood where I know the food good. #Truth";
18Mr. Sanders' Instagram account lit up with posts lamenting Bigg Nokey's departure; and
19 WHEREAS, the culinary community of Shreveport has lost a giant with a heart of
20gold; Bigg Nokey was well known for his dream of feeding the world and proudly fed his
21Cooper Road neighborhood; his passing has left a void in the lives of his friends and family

1but fond recollections of great food and good times shared with Elmer "Bigg Nokey"
2Henderson will forever live in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
4express sincerest condolences to the family and community of Elmer "Bigg Nokey"
5Henderson in this time of mourning and does hereby extend thoughts and prayers for peace
6and comfort.
7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
8to the family of Elmer "Bigg Nokey" Henderson.
