BY REPRESENTATIVES WILLMOTT, ADAMS, BILLIOT, CONNICK, GISCLAIR,
HENRY, HILFERTY, LEOPOLD, LOPINTO, LYONS, STOKES, AND TALBOT

COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Metairie Kennel Club upon its fortieth anniversary
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To commend the Metairie Kennel Club upon its fortieth anniversary.
3 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and congratulate the Metairie Kennel Club
4upon the occasion of its fortieth anniversary; and
5 WHEREAS, the Metairie Kennel Club was founded in 1976 by Gayle and Ray
6Harney, Earl and Lydia Rose, and Bob and Cheryl Robertson; charter members of the club
7also include Manuel Miyares and Jeanne "Bobbie" Stulb; and
8 WHEREAS, the Metairie Kennel Club was incorporated on November 1, 1976; the
9club seeks to further the advancement of all breeds of purebred dogs, to protect and advance
10the interests of all breeds of purebred dogs, and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at
11dog shows and obedience trials; and
12 WHEREAS, the club's first match was held at Metairie Playground in 1976, and its
13first American Kennel Club (AKC) show was held on October 23, 1981, at Lafreniere Park;
14and
15 WHEREAS, the club supports the local community by holding responsible dog
16ownership days, hosting meet the breed opportunities for potential new pet owners,
17conducting the AKC portion of the annual Pet Fest held at Lafreniere Park, and helping with
18pet food drives; and

1 WHEREAS, the Metairie Kennel Club merits a special measure of commendation
2for the tremendous pride and honor it has brought to its members, the community, and to the
3state of Louisiana for the past forty years.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
5commend the Metairie Kennel Club upon its fortieth anniversary; does hereby recognize and
6record for posterity the outstanding achievements and manifold contributions of the club;
7and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that the
8club brings to the city of Metairie and the state of Louisiana.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
10to Carla Catalano with the Metairie Kennel Club.
