BY REPRESENTATIVE BROADWATER AND SENATOR JOHNS
CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences upon the death of Rita Doughty Thompson
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Rita Doughty Thompson.
3 WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
4Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Rita Doughty Thompson on Thursday, April
514, 2016; and
6 WHEREAS, Mrs. Thompson was born on October 19, 1931, in Jena, to Luther Ray
7Doughty, Sr., and Gertrude Summerlin Doughty; and
8 WHEREAS, she volunteered her time to improve the lives of many citizens; for
9twenty-three years, Mrs. Thompson volunteered worldwide in a variety of organizations
10while her husband served honorably in the United States Air Force; and
11 WHEREAS, she was a faithful member of Cypress Baptist Church and was
12employed as an executive secretary for the Louisiana Jaycees for many years; and
13 WHEREAS, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Kathryn
14Breithaupt; and her brother, Luther Ray Doughty, Jr.; and
15 WHEREAS, Mrs. Thompson leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of
16sixty-three years, Colonel Ray G. Thompson, United States Air Force, Retired; her sons, Ray
17G. Thompson, Jr., and his wife Jenna and the Honorable Jeff  R. Thompson, Jr., and his wife
18Toni; her daughter, Starla Lawrence and her husband Dr. Scott Lawrence; her grandchildren,
19Alicia Finley, Heather Looney, Hannah Hofweber, Madi Lawrence, R. Chase Thompson,
20Lillie Thompson, and Rowe Thompson; and her five great-grandchildren; and

1 WHEREAS, with the death of Rita Doughty Thompson, Louisiana has lost one her
2finest citizens, and her death has left a great void and created a genuine sense of sorrow in
3all who knew her, including her family and friends; and
4 WHEREAS, Rita Doughty Thompson leaves behind a rich and unique legacy of hard
5work and dedication and is greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
7express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Rita Doughty Thompson; does
8hereby recognize and record for posterity her notable accomplishments and singular
9contributions; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that she
10will forever bring to her family and friends, her community, and the state of Louisiana.
11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
12to the family of Rita Doughty Thompson.
