LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS:  Expresses sympathies of the legislature to those affected by the
March 2016 floods and offers condolences to the families of those who lost their
lives across the state in those disasters
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To express the sympathies of the Legislature of Louisiana to those affected by the March
3 2016 floods and to offer condolences to the families of those who lost their lives
4 across the state in those disasters.
5 WHEREAS, a strong upper level storm system caused thunderstorms across the state
6of Louisiana from March 9 through March 12, 2016; and
7 WHEREAS, nearly five thousand homes in Louisiana were damaged by widespread
8flooding, and at least four deaths were reported, including that of an elderly man and a young
9child; and
10 WHEREAS, the March 2016 floods were the most widespread non-hurricane
11flooding that the Louisiana National Guard has ever responded to; the heavy downpours
12submerged roads and cars, washed out bridges, and forced residents to flee from their homes;
13and
14 WHEREAS, nearly 1,400 soldiers and air crews worked in the flooded areas
15throughout the state, deploying in high-water vehicles, boats, and helicopters; and

1 WHEREAS, on Sunday, March 13, 2016, President Obama signed an order declaring
2the flooding in Louisiana a major disaster, triggering federal aid for flood victims; and
3 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislature and the citizens of Louisiana will never forget
4the toll that the March 2016 floods took on the state of Louisiana.
5 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
6express sympathies to those affected by the March 2016 floods and does hereby offer
7condolences to the families of those who lost their lives across the state of Louisiana due to
8those disasters.
