HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 68

ELECTIONS: Directs the secretary of state to establish and maintain a toll-free number to
be used by the public to report election issues and problems

2To direct the secretary of state to establish and prominently post a toll-free number to allow
3 members of the public to report election issues and problems to both the secretary
4 of state and the local registrar and to track such calls to ensure that issues and
5 problems are addressed appropriately.
6 WHEREAS, House Resolution No. 94 of the 2015 Regular Session created a
7subcommittee of the Committee on House and Governmental Affairs to examine matters
8relating to the compensation, evaluation, appointment, and placement within the structure
9of government of registrars of voters, payment of expenses incurred by a registrar of voters
10for early voting, and any related issues that the subcommittee deems appropriate; and
11 WHEREAS, the subcommittee recommended that a toll-free number be established
12and prominently posted to allow the public to report election issues and problems to both the
13secretary of state, as the chief election officer of the state, and to the local registrar, who
14might be in a position to directly address the issue or problem; and
15 WHEREAS, the subcommittee determined that each call should be tracked to ensure
16that the issue or problem was addressed appropriately.
17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
18direct the secretary of state to establish and prominently post a toll-free number to allow
19members of the public to report election issues and problems to both the secretary of state
20and the local registrar and to track such calls to ensure that issues and problems are
21addressed appropriately.

1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
2to the secretary of state and the Louisiana Registrar of Voters Association.
