HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 68
BY REPRESENTATIVE DANAHAY
ELECTIONS:  Directs the secretary of state to establish and maintain a toll-free number to
be used by the public to report election issues and problems

2To urge and request the secretary of state to continue to maintain a toll-free number to allow
3 members of the public to submit comments, concerns, and questions relative to
4 elections; to immediately send to the appropriate registrar a detailed summary of any
5 such comment, concern, or question; and to track calls to ensure that they are
6 addressed appropriately and to urge and request each registrar of voters to
7 prominently post the toll-free number at his office.
8 WHEREAS, House Resolution No. 94 of the 2015 Regular Session created a
9subcommittee of the Committee on House and Governmental Affairs to examine matters
10relating to the compensation, evaluation, appointment, and placement within the structure
11of government of registrars of voters, payment of expenses incurred by a registrar of voters
12for early voting, and any related issues that the subcommittee deems appropriate; and
13 WHEREAS, the subcommittee recommended that a toll-free number be established
14and prominently posted to be used by the public during elections to communicate with the
15secretary of state and the local registrar; and
16 WHEREAS, the subcommittee determined that each call should be tracked to ensure
17that the call is addressed appropriately.
18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
19urge and request the secretary of state to continue to maintain a toll-free number to allow
20members of the public to submit comments, concerns, and questions relative to elections;
21to immediately send to the appropriate registrar a detailed summary of any such comment,

1concern, or question; and to track calls to ensure that they are addressed appropriately and
2to urge and request each registrar of voters to prominently post the toll-free number at his
3office.
4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
5to the secretary of state and the Louisiana Registrar of Voters Association.

Summary of Amendments Adopted by House
The Committee Amendments Proposed by House Committee on House and
Governmental Affairs to the original resolution:
1. Request the secretary of state to continue to maintain a toll-free number instead
of directing the secretary of state to establish it.
2. Request the secretary of state to immediately send to the appropriate registrar a
detailed summary of each call.
3. Request each registrar to prominently post the toll-free number at his office.
