SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates Tuesday, April 26, 2016, as Kingsley House
Day at the legislature
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To designate Tuesday, April 26, 2016, as Kingsley House Day at the legislature.
3 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Kingsley House and to designate Tuesday,
4April 26, 2016, as Kingsley House Day; and
5 WHEREAS, Kingsley House, founded in 1896, serves individuals of all ages and
6offers services throughout the greater New Orleans area; and
7 WHEREAS, the mission of Kingsley House is to "educate children, strengthen
8families, and build communities"; and
9 WHEREAS, Kingsley House launched the very first kindergarten and summer school
10programs in the state and has promoted education in the form of the Head Start and Early
11Head Start preschool services, Educare New Orleans, and the Parents as Educators program;
12and
13 WHEREAS, a youth services program and an after-school program provide activities
14for children between the ages of five and seventeen; these programs promote psychosocial
15skills, creative arts, success, and respect for others while offering tutoring, mentoring, and
16drug abuse and violence prevention activities; and
17 WHEREAS, Kingsley House Community Counseling Center Services offers various
18programs geared towards mental health counseling and therapy, reintegration into the
19community, and the Adult Services Program provides assistance to senior citizens and
20medically fragile adults; and

1 WHEREAS, the Community and Supportive Services Program (CSSP) offers
2comprehensive community-based services that connect individuals and families to
3community network supports that encourage personal growth, enhance knowledge, increase
4awareness, promote self-sufficiency, and support the overall well-being of the individual,
5families, and ultimately the community; and
6 WHEREAS, Kingsley House merits special recognition for providing community
7services for over one hundred twenty years and for making a significant impact on the lives
8of the thousands of children and families that it serves annually.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
10designate Tuesday, April 26, 2016, as Kingsley House Day at the legislature.
11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
12to Keith Liederman, Ph.D., chief executive officer of Kingsley House.
