HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 100

CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences upon the death of Dick Walther, D.V.M., of
Houma
1	A RESOLUTION
2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Dick Walther,
3 doctor of veterinary medicine, of Houma.
4 WHEREAS, the members of the House were saddened to learn of the passing on
5March 25, 2016, of Dick Walther, doctor of veterinary medicine, of Houma, at the age of
6eighty-six; and
7 WHEREAS, Dr. Walther was a lifelong resident of Terrebonne Parish who
8established his practice of clinical veterinary medicine in 1955; and
9 WHEREAS, the professional and civic affiliations of Dr. Walther were myriad: he
10was a member of the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association; in 1992, Dr. Walther was
11named Veterinarian of the Year by the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association; he held
12membership in the American Veterinary Medical Association; he served on the Louisiana
13State Board of Veterinary Medicine and the Louisiana Livestock Sanitary Board; he was a
14member of the Terrebonne Parish Farm Bureau and the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of
15Commerce; Dr. Walther was a past president of the Terrebonne Parish Cattleman's
16Association, the Louisiana Cattleman's Association, and the National Cattleman's
17Association; he was a board member of the Louisiana 4-H Foundation; and Dr. Walther was
18elected to the national honorary extension fraternity, Epsilon Sigma Phi; and
19 WHEREAS, Dr. Walther maintained a herd of Charolais cattle, a breed first imported
20from France in the 1930s by French ranchers to protect them from destruction in World War
21II; and

1 WHEREAS, left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ernestine Smith Walther; sons
2John Walther and his wife Carolyn, Dan Walther, Glen Walther, D.V.M., and his wife
3Monica, and Ben Walther; brother Roy Walther and his wife Mary; and four grandchildren;
4and
5 WHEREAS, although his passing will leave a void that can never be filled,
6recollections of good times, happy occasions, and the warmth of his presence will forever
7remain in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved Dr. Dick Walther.
8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
9Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and most heartfelt condolences to the
10family and friends who mourn the passing of Dick Walther, D.V.M.; and does hereby extend
11thoughts and prayers for peace and comfort.
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
13to Ernestine Smith Walther.
