HLS 16RS-2058 ORIGINAL 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 110 BY REPRESENTATIVE MACK SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates May 15 through May 21, 2016, as Police Week in the state of Louisiana and commends the service of law enforcement officers 1 A RESOLUTION 2To designate the week of May 15 through May 21, 2016, as Police Week in the state of 3 Louisiana and to commend the service of law enforcement officers. 4 WHEREAS, there are approximately nine hundred thousand law enforcement 5officers serving in communities across the United States; and 6 WHEREAS, nearly sixty thousand assaults against law enforcement officers are 7reported each year, resulting in approximately sixteen thousand injuries; and 8 WHEREAS, since the first recorded death in 1791, more than twenty thousand law 9enforcement officers in the United States have made the ultimate sacrifice, being killed in 10the line of duty, including nine members of the Louisiana Law Enforcement Community; 11and 12 WHEREAS, the names of these notable public servants are engraved on the walls of 13the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and 14 WHEREAS, many new names of fallen heroes will be added to the National Law 15Enforcement Officers Memorial this spring; these new names will include the one hundred 16twenty-four officers killed in 2015 and one hundred fifty-six officers killed in previous 17years; and 18 WHEREAS, the service and sacrifice of all officers who have been killed in the line 19of duty will be honored during the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund's 2028th annual candlelight vigil held on May 13, 2016; and Page 1 of 2 HLS 16RS-2058 ORIGINAL HR NO. 110 1 WHEREAS, May 15, 2016, is designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day to honor 2all of the fallen officers and their families. 3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 4Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate the week of May 15 through May 21, 2016, 5as Police Week in the state of Louisiana and does hereby commend law enforcement officers 6for their service in communities across the United States. 7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 8to the Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police.
