SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates Thursday, May 5, 2016, as Louisiana Society
of Professional Surveyors Day at the state capitol
1 A RESOLUTION
2To designate Thursday, May 5, 2016, as Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors Day
3 at the state capitol.
4 WHEREAS, professional surveying is celebrating its one hundred seventh year of
5licensure; the first licenses, numbered one, two, and three, were issued to J.B. Bice, C.P.
6Couvillion, and R.A. Crowson, respectively, in 1908; and
7 WHEREAS, licensed professional surveyors are compelled to follow rules of
8professional conduct in order to safeguard life and health, to protect property, to promote the
9welfare of the public, and to establish and maintain a high standard of integrity in the
10performance of their professional duties; and
11 WHEREAS, licensed professional surveyors, at all times, recognize that their
12primary obligation is to protect the safety, health, property, and welfare of the public; and
13 WHEREAS, licensed professional surveyors are committed to cooperating with
14educational institutions to maintain high standards of education in land surveying; and
15 WHEREAS, licensed professional surveyors are committed to maintaining the
16highest levels of professional quality and to keeping abreast of the most advanced
17technological developments in their field, including utilizing global positioning, mapping,
18and spatial referencing as they seek to provide state-of-the-art surveying services to the
19citizens of Louisiana.
20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
21Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana Society of Professional

1Surveyors and its members across the state for their significant contributions in service to
2the citizens of Louisiana since licenses were first issued in 1908.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature
4of Louisiana does hereby designate Thursday, May 5, 2016, as Louisiana Society of
5Professional Surveyors Day at the state capitol.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
7to the president of the Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors.
