COMMENDATIONS: Commends the North DeSoto High School Lady Griffins softball
team upon winning the 2016 Class 4A state championship
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the North DeSoto High School Lady Griffins softball team upon winning the
3 2016 Class 4A state championship.
4 WHEREAS, for the second consecutive year, the North DeSoto Lady Griffins
5captured the title of state champions in Class 4A softball, and they did so in commanding
6fashion with a 3-0 shutout over Cabrini High School on Saturday, April 30, 2016; and
7 WHEREAS, under the leadership of head coach Lori McFerren, the Lady Griffins
8completed a season of twenty-five wins against just six losses, entered the Louisiana High
9School Athletic Association (LHSAA) tournament ranked No. 1, and outscored their
10opponents 37-2; and
11 WHEREAS, pitcher Emma Callie Delafield and her teammates allowed only two
12runs to their opponents through five playoff games; and
13 WHEREAS, the level of dominance displayed by the North DeSoto Lady Griffins
14in this year's Class 4A LHSAA championship finals is the result of years of hard work by
15the student athletes, solid coaching, commitment from parents, and the backing of the school
16and community; and
17 WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest levels of excellence
18throughout the season, and each Lady Griffin deserves recognition for her vital contributions
19to the winning effort; and
20 WHEREAS, team members Taylor Christian, Rhyann Cisco, Emma Callie Delafield,
21Stephanie Easter, Haily Ebey, Britlyn Garrett, Amber Giddens, Emily Henderson, Laken

1Martin, Bailey McMillian, Lea Posey, Bayli Simon, Sami Walters, and Sydney Webster
2were guided by head coach Lori McFerren and her assistants, Jerrie Choate, Jaymee Echols,
3Julie Henderson, and Robert John Middleton; with the year-long support of statistician
4Lauren Davlin, the hard work and dedication of the team led to this year's championship; and
5 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the Lady Griffins
6have earned; to commend the team for the ability they have displayed, particularly at the
7most difficult level of competition; and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to
8the team members and coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship shown
9while achieving the highest state girls' softball honor possible for North DeSoto High
10School.
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
12Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the athletes and coaching
13staff of the North DeSoto High School girls' softball team for winning the 2016 Class 4A
14state championship, capping off a truly spectacular season; and does hereby recognize the
15team's outstanding performance and the pride and honor they have brought to the school and
16community.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
18to head coach Lori McFerren.
