HLS 16RS-3883 ORIGINAL 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 129 BY REPRESENTATIVES JEFFERSON AND NORTON CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences on the death of Frank Levingston 1 A RESOLUTION 2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Frank 3 Levingston. 4 WHEREAS, the members of the House of Representatives were saddened to learn 5of the passing on May 3, 2016, of Frank Levingston, at the extraordinary age of one hundred 6ten years; and 7 WHEREAS, Mr. Levingston was born in 1905 in Cotton Valley, Louisiana, to Frank 8and Ida Levingston; he was one of seven children gifted to the Levingston household; and 9 WHEREAS, both of Frank Levingston's parents passed before he reached his teen 10years, but along with his siblings, Frank helped to maintain some two hundred acres of land; 11that land remains in the family to this day; and 12 WHEREAS, Frank Levingston answered the call of duty in service to his country; 13in 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army with the rank of private and was assigned as an 14automobile serviceman; he served during the Allied Invasion of Italy and was honorably 15discharged, and prior to his passing, he was the oldest living World War II veteran; and 16 WHEREAS, after leaving the military, Mr. Levingston became a union worker and 17specialized in cement finishing; and 18 WHEREAS, Frank Levingston lived through much change and growth in his one 19hundred ten years on Earth; he suffered in the Great Depression and the Jim Crow era, yet 20he was privileged to witness the inception of racial and gender equality in the United States; 21and Page 1 of 2 HLS 16RS-3883 ORIGINAL HR NO. 129 1 WHEREAS, Mr. Levingston traveled to Rome, Italy, and to Mecca; he received and 2accepted an invitation for the trip of a lifetime to the White House in November 2015 as a 3member of the Austin, Texas, Honor's Flight group; and 4 WHEREAS, such a long life is worthy of salutation and commendation, and although 5the family and friends of Frank Levingston will mourn his loss, their lives were greatly 6enriched by his passing their way; each will share fond recollections of the life and times of 7Frank Levingston, an American patriot, a world traveler, and a proud member of the 8exclusive Louisiana centenarian club, now gone to his eternal rest. 9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 10Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend sincerest condolences on the passing of Frank 11Levingston and does hereby express hopes for his family and friends to find peace at his 12departure. 13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 14to the family of Frank Levingston.
