COMMENDATIONS: Commends Alexander Young of Southeastern Louisiana University
upon being named the 2015-2016 Southland Conference Men's Indoor Track and
Field Student Athlete of the Year
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Alexander Young of Southeastern Louisiana University, the 2015-2016
3 Southland Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Student Athlete of the Year.
4 WHEREAS, Southeastern Louisiana University senior Alexander "Alex" Young, a
5native of Nashville, Tennessee, became the Lions' first NCAA Division I national champion
6and earned first-team All America honors in the weight throw at the March 11, 2016,
7championships with a school record and Birmingham, Alabama, CrossPlex record of
8seventy-eight feet, one inch; and
9 WHEREAS, specialized training from head coach Sean Brady and throwing coach
10Amin Nikfar contributed to Alex Young's ability to record nine wins on the season and to
11finish third or higher in every meet in which he competed; he was named to the All-
12Southland Conference first team after he won the weight throw and the shot put at the
13conference championship; in the weight throw, Alex broke his own meet record; and
14 WHEREAS, Alex Young becomes the third Southeastern Louisiana University track
15and field and cross country Lion to earn the title of Southland Conference Men's Indoor
16Track and Field Student Athlete of the Year, joining Henry Rop and Cory Roberts; and
17 WHEREAS, academic achievement is part of the amazing resumé of Alex Young;
18he earned a 3.81 grade point average in his scholastic field of fitness and human performance
19and made the Southeastern Louisiana University President's List in the fall of 2015, the
20university Honor Roll in the summer of 2015, and the Southland Conference Commissioner's
21Honor Roll in the spring of 2015; and

1 WHEREAS, it is fitting to herald Alexander Young for the student athlete of the year
2honor awarded to him in track and field by the Southland Conference; to recognize his off
3the field achievements in the classroom; and to salute this young man for all of his athletic
4and academic accomplishments.
5 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
6Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Alexander Young upon being named the
72015-2016 Southland Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Student Athlete of the Year
8and does hereby express best hopes and wishes for a bright future.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
10to Alexander Young.
