COMMENDATIONS: Commends Virginia Ireland upon the occasion of her one hundredth
birthday
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend and congratulate Virginia Ireland of Bastrop upon her one hundredth birthday.
3 WHEREAS, attainment to the rank of centenarian is indeed rare, and on May 26,
42016, Virginia Ireland joined this exclusive club; and
5 WHEREAS, Virginia was born May 26, 1916, in Bienville, Louisiana; during World
6War II, she was a registered nurse with a specialty in public health; and
7 WHEREAS, Virginia married Garland Ireland; to this union, one son, LeVoe Ireland,
8was born; and
9 WHEREAS, after the war ended, Virginia and Garland moved to Bastrop; Garland
10opened Ireland's Jewelry and Virginia worked as a registered nurse anesthetist; and
11 WHEREAS, upon her retirement from nursing, Virginia Ireland earned the
12equivalent of an associate degree as a bridal consultant, which enabled the family store to
13offer broader selections of china, sterling flatware, crystal, and all other accoutrements
14necessary for brides; and
15 WHEREAS, Virginia and Garland retired from the jewelry store in 1988 but Virginia
16remained active at First Baptist Church in Bastrop, where she has held membership since the
17early 1950s; and
18 WHEREAS, Virginia Ireland's personal fitness trainer, Lance Rogers, has kept her
19in shape for more than twenty years with up to three workouts per week, and this remarkable
20lady is pleased to join the rarified set of proud Louisiana centenarians.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
2Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Virginia Ireland upon the
3happy occasion of her one hundredth birthday and does hereby express best thoughts and
4prayers for continued good health and many more birthdays to come.
5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
6to Virginia Ireland.
