HLS 16RS-1365 ORIGINAL 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 14 BY REPRESENTATIVE SMITH SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Commends ExxonMobil and recognizes Monday, March 21, 2016, as ExxonMobil Day 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend ExxonMobil and recognize Monday, March 21, 2016, as ExxonMobil Day at 3 the Louisiana State Capitol. 4 WHEREAS, it is with great pride and gratitude that the Louisiana House of 5Representatives commends ExxonMobil for the contributions its operations have made to 6the economy of the state of Louisiana and to the prosperity of its citizens; and 7 WHEREAS, as one of the top employers in the state of Louisiana, ExxonMobil has 8more than eleven thousand employees, retirees, and contractors in Louisiana; ExxonMobil 9has workers in nearly every corner of Louisiana, from the Haynesville Shale to the Baton 10Rouge chemical plants to the deep water of the Gulf of Mexico; and 11 WHEREAS, the ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Refinery is the largest manufacturing 12employer in Louisiana and the fourth largest refinery in the United States, and the Baton 13Rouge Chemical Plant is the second largest manufacturing employer in the state with 14ExxonMobil's Louisiana operations paying more than one billion one hundred million 15dollars in gross payroll wages to nearly four thousand employees statewide over the past 16decade; and 17 WHEREAS, ExxonMobil's engineers, scientists, skilled workers, and support staff 18in Louisiana have played crucial roles in shaping the energy and petrochemical industry for 19more than a century with revolutionary research innovations and technological 20breakthroughs; and 21 WHEREAS, ExxonMobil's Louisiana operations pay approximately one hundred 22twenty-five million dollars in state and local taxes each year including nearly nineteen Page 1 of 3 HLS 16RS-1365 ORIGINAL HR NO. 14 1million dollars in property taxes in East Baton Rouge Parish alone, and has paid more than 2one billion dollars in state and local taxes over the past ten years; and 3 WHEREAS, ExxonMobil and its thousands of employees and retirees take an active 4role in the betterment of the surrounding communities throughout the state of Louisiana by 5providing tens of thousands of volunteer hours annually to numerous nonprofit organizations 6and local food banks as well as providing financial support to dozens of educational, 7environmental, cultural, and humanitarian groups through charitable contributions and 8matching grants including the donation of nearly five million dollars each year to hundreds 9of civic, community, and educational organizations; and 10 WHEREAS, ExxonMobil's facilities in Louisiana are dedicated to operating in an 11environmentally responsible manner and have been recognized for their efforts as a recipient 12of numerous awards for their environmental leadership; and 13 WHEREAS, ExxonMobil is committed to continuous improvement in the safety of 14its employees, contractors, and the community and its Louisiana facilities have been 15recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for their voluntary 16protection programs and safety performance; and 17 WHEREAS, ExxonMobil's facilities in Louisiana represent substantial long-term 18investments and their operations retain existing jobs and attract new jobs, provide tax 19revenue, spur economic growth, and help meet the world's growing energy needs; and 20 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities, 21and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon businesses like 22ExxonMobil, which is taking on the world's toughest energy challenges. 23 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 24Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend ExxonMobil on more than a century of 25partnership and progress with Louisiana and does hereby recognize Monday, March 21, 262016, as ExxonMobil Day at the Louisiana State Capitol. 27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 28to ExxonMobil's Louisiana Operations.
