COMMENDATIONS: Commends the University Laboratory School boys' basketball team
upon winning the Class 3A state championship
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the University Laboratory School boys' basketball team upon winning the
3 Class 3A state championship.
4 WHEREAS, the University Laboratory School boy's basketball team has ascended
5to a place of prominence in the ranks of Louisiana high school basketball by winning the
6Class 3A state championship title in three consecutive years; and
7 WHEREAS, in 2016, the Cubs basketball season was nothing short of sensational
8and finished with the Cubs defeating Wossman High School by a final score of 98-65 at
9Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, Louisiana; and
10 WHEREAS, the 2016 championship title was earned with the incredible success of
11the team's coaching staff, under head coach Joe Spencer, and everyone who participated in
12the championship game; and
13 WHEREAS, the Cubs were led by the title game's most valuable player, Jalen
14Johnson, who finished with a team-high of twenty-eight points on nine-of-twelve shooting;
15Wayde Sims who added twenty-six points and a game-high twelve rebounds; Marshall
16Graves who had seventeen assists in two games at the tournament, tying a tournament
17record; and Spencer Mays who scored twelve points; and
18 WHEREAS, the Louisiana House of Representatives wishes to recognize the state
19champion Cubs and commends the entire team for the ability they have displayed at this
20difficult level of competition for three consecutive years and to express sincere and heartfelt

1congratulations to the team members and coaching staff for the merits earned and the
2sportsmanship shown while achieving this high honor for their school and local community.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
4Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the University High boys' basketball team
5upon its memorable and historic victory in the 2016 Class 3A state championship and does
6hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and everyone involved with this
7prestigious basketball program as they celebrate their exceptional achievements and prepare
8for continued success in the future.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
10to head coach Joe Spencer.
