HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 18

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Joiya Smith upon being crowned Miss Grambling State
University 2015-2016
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend Joiya Smith upon being crowned Miss Grambling State University 2015-2016.
3 WHEREAS, Joiya Smith is a native of Bogalusa and a 2012 honor graduate of
4Bogalusa High School; she is the daughter of Veronica Adams Smith and Robert Smith; and
5 WHEREAS, Miss Smith is an art major at Grambling State University; she is an
6active member of the Alpha Gamma Art Guild, the Favrot Student Union Board, the Tiger
7Dolls of the Grambling State University football team, and was elected as the 2013-2014
8Miss Sophomore; and
9 WHEREAS, she also served as vice president of her junior class, president of The
10Society of Distinguished Black Women, Inc., and as an ambassador of the Grambling State
11University Thurgood Marshall College Fund; and
12 WHEREAS, Miss Smith was given the opportunity to help create Grambling State
13University's latest statue, Eddie the Tiger; and
14 WHEREAS, Miss Smith holds the honor of being the sixty-second Miss Grambling
15State University; and
16 WHEREAS, Joiya Smith, Miss Grambling State University 2015-2016, merits a
17sincere measure of commendation for the pride and honor she brings to her family and
18friends, to Grambling State University, to the city of Bogalusa, and to the state of Louisiana.
19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
20Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Joiya Smith upon being crowned Miss

1Grambling State University 2015-2016 and does hereby extend to Miss Smith best wishes
2for success and happiness in her future endeavors.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
4to Joiya Smith.
