SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes Wednesday, May 25, 2016, as Retired State
Employees Association Day at the capitol
1 A RESOLUTION
2To recognize Wednesday, May 25, 2016, as Retired State Employees Association Day at the
3 state capitol.
4 WHEREAS, the Retired State Employees Association of Louisiana (RSEA) was
5organized and established as a nonprofit association on November 14, 1966; and
6 WHEREAS, the RSEA is an independent, membership-driven organization
7representing men and women, and their families, who have retired or will retire from
8employment with the state of Louisiana; and
9 WHEREAS, the mission of the RSEA is to advance the quality of life of current and
10future retired state employees who have given of their talents to the state of Louisiana
11through public employment; and
12 WHEREAS, the objective of the RSEA is to make a significant difference in the lives
13and well-being of current and future retirees by protecting retirement and health benefits;
14securing cost-of-living adjustments; providing access to other needed benefits; and keeping
15members informed through newsletters, websites, annual chapter meetings, and the
16statewide annual conference; and
17 WHEREAS, the RSEA takes an active leadership role in the passage of legislation
18to effectuate cost-of-living adjustments for retirees, lobbies to change Social Security laws,
19and joins with the Louisiana State Employees Retirement System and the office of group
20benefits to support the passage of legislation that benefits retirees and active state
21employees; and

1 WHEREAS, the RSEA is open to membership for any retired or active employee of
2the state retirement systems who wants to work for the betterment of our members and the
3state as a whole; and
4 WHEREAS, the RSEA is committed to maintaining the future of our state retirement
5systems; and
6 WHEREAS, the first incorporators and founders of RSEA, including Curtis Breaux,
7P.J. Becker, W.O.W Pankey, Mrs. John F. Waymouth, Mrs. William S. Day, Sr., Louis
8Duclos, Eunice Chandler, William B. Myrick, Sr., Ouida Smith, and Frank E. Haight, have
9made significant contributions to the employees and retirees of the state of Louisiana; and
10 WHEREAS, during 2016, the RSEA will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary.
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
12Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 25, 2016, as Retired
13Employees Association Day at the state capitol, and commends the members of the RSEA
14for their valuable service to the state of Louisiana on the year of the association's fiftieth
15anniversary.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
17to the president of the RSEA, Victor B. Dennis, Jr..
