HLS 16RS-1346 ORIGINAL 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 19 BY REPRESENTATIVE HOWARD COMMENDATIONS: Commends the 2015-2016 Anacoco High School boys' basketball team upon winning its second consecutive state championship 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend the 2015-2016 Anacoco High School boys' basketball team for winning its 3 second consecutive Class B state championship. 4 WHEREAS, the Anacoco High School Indians boys' basketball team completed a 5sensational 2015-2016 season when they earned their second straight Class B state title after 6defeating Zwolle High School by a final score of 59-46 at Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles; 7and 8 WHEREAS, the Indians finished the 2015-2016 season with twenty-nine wins, 9eleven losses, and a 7-1 district record; and 10 WHEREAS, Anacoco held its championship game opponent to just two points in the 11second quarter, which broke the Class B record for fewest points allowed in Top 28 12tournament history; and 13 WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest levels of excellence 14throughout the season, and each athlete deserves recognition for his vital contributions to the 15winning effort; and 16 WHEREAS, senior Will Reese led the Indians with twenty-five points, eight assists, 17six rebounds, two steals, one blocked shot, and was named Most Outstanding Player in the 18Class B final game; and seniors Drew Hillman, Race Johnson, and Caleb Reese; juniors 19Brent Cosio, Trace Goins, and Hunter McCrary; sophomore Julian Cecil; and freshmen 20Jordan Martin, Colby Wedgeworth, and Tyler Williams all played a part in the success of 21the team this season; and Page 1 of 2 HLS 16RS-1346 ORIGINAL HR NO. 19 1 WHEREAS, the championship feat was achieved in the face of an intense period of 2heavy rains and severe flooding in many parts of the state that impacted the homes of some 3of the players and others in their Anacoco community, and tremendous focus in spite of 4personal challenges was evident in the collective effort of the team on game day; and 5 WHEREAS, Head Coach Tracy Reese has instilled an ethic of winning and has 6demonstrated the kind of leadership and motivational skills that his players will need to 7succeed both on and off the court; and 8 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the Anacoco 9Indians have earned, to commend the team for the ability they have displayed, particularly 10at the most difficult level of competition, and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations 11to the team members and the coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship 12shown while achieving such a high honor for Anacoco High School. 13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of Legislature 14of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the members and coaching staff of the 15Anacoco High School boys' basketball team for winning its second consecutive Class B state 16basketball championship, capping off a truly spectacular season; and does hereby recognize 17the team's outstanding performance and the pride and honor that they have brought to their 18school and community. 19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 20to Head Coach Tracy Reese.
