COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Cecilia High School boys' track and field team upon
winning the 2016 Class 4A state championship
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Cecilia High School boys' track and field team upon winning the 2016
3 Class 4A state championship.
4 WHEREAS, led by senior Raymond Calais, who captured state titles in the 100-
5meter dash with a time of 10.59 seconds and clocked 21.21 seconds in the 200-meter dash,
6the Cecilia High Bulldogs rolled up a total of seventy-eight meet points to take the Louisiana
7High School Athletic Association Class 4A championship on Saturday, May 9, 2016; and
8 WHEREAS, head coach Logan Duplechien graduated from Cecilia High School in
92002 and returned to his alma mater to teach and train his athletes to be winners; and
10 WHEREAS, the Bulldogs were two points shy of reaching the 4A title in 2015 but
11Coach Duplechien, his staff, and the members of the team focused on the state championship
12stakes and were determined to return to Cecilia High School in 2016 as victors; and
13 WHEREAS, each member of the Cecilia High School boys' track and field team
14deserves special recognition for the dedication and effort displayed that culminated in this
15year's Class 4A state title: seniors Raymond Calais, Jr., 100-meter champion, 200-meter
16champion, 4x100-meter relay champion, 4x200-meter relay champion, and named the state
17Outstanding Track Performer, Kenya Dartez, javelin, Darius Gordon, shot put, Brandon
18Williams, 110-meter hurdles and 4x400-meter relay, and Keldrick Zeno, 4x100-meter relay
19champion and 4x200-meter relay champion; juniors Darius Flenaugh, 800-meter runner-up
20and 4x400-meter relay, and Jason Stelly, Jr., 4x100-meter relay champion, 4x200-meter
21relay champion, and 4x400-meter relay; and sophomores Terrell Chevalier, 110-meter

1hurdles champion, 300-meter hurdles, and 4x400-meter relay, and Ryan Malbrough, 100-
2meter, 200-meter, 4x100-meter relay champion, and 4x200-meter relay champion; and
3 WHEREAS, Coach Duplechien and assistant coaches Mickey Autrey, Alex Durand,
4Gerald Etienne, Lowell Guidry, and Marty Lewis have instilled an ethic of winning in these
5young men and have demonstrated leadership and motivational skills that have led to success
6both on and off field; and
7 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the 2016 Bulldogs
8have earned; to commend the team for the ability they have displayed, particularly at the
9most difficult level of competition; and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to
10the team members and coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship shown
11while achieving the highest state boys' track and field honor possible for Cecilia High
12School.
13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
14Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the athletes and coaching
15staff of the Cecilia High School boys' track and field team for winning the 2016 Louisiana
16High School Athletic Association Class 4A championship, capping off a truly spectacular
17season; and does hereby recognize the team's outstanding performance and the pride and
18honor they have brought to their school and community.
19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
20to head coach Logan Duplechien.
