CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Lucy Carpenter Cornwell
1 A RESOLUTION
2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Lucy
3 Carpenter Cornwell.
4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Louisiana House of
5Representatives has learned of the death of Lucy Carpenter Cornwell on Tuesday, March 15,
62016; and
7 WHEREAS, Lucy Carpenter Cornwell was a native of Natchitoches and a resident
8of Grambling; and
9 WHEREAS, she graduated from Grambling State University; she obtained a bachelor
10of arts degree in elementary education and a degree in paralegal studies; and
11 WHEREAS, for thirty-four years, Ms. Cornwell served as the librarian at Grambling
12State University; she also taught in the Lincoln Parish School System; and
13 WHEREAS, she was the loving wife of James Milton Cornwell for fifty-two years;
14she was the mother of Charlotte Cornwell Winnfield and a grandmother of four; and
15 WHEREAS, although the death of Lucy Carpenter Cornwell has left a tremendous
16void in her family and community, her memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of
17all who knew and loved her.
18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
19Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the
20death of Lucy Carpenter Cornwell; does hereby record for posterity her singular
21contributions and outstanding achievements; and does hereby express enduring appreciation

1for the pride and honor that this distinguished individual will forever bring to her family,
2friends, community, and state.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
4to the family of Lucy Carpenter Cornwell.
