COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Woodlawn Lion Dance Team upon induction into
the 2016 Louisiana Folklife Center Hall of Master Folk Artists
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Woodlawn Lion Dance Team upon its induction into the 2016 Louisiana
3 Folklife Center Hall of Master Folk Artists.
4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Folklife Center is an agency of Northwestern State
5University of Louisiana and was established in 1976; and
6 WHEREAS, the Folklife Center serves as an archival repository for many folklife
7materials; and
8 WHEREAS, the Woodlawn Lion Dance Team has been inducted into the 2016
9Louisiana Folklife Center Hall of Master Folk Artists, and although the team has been
10known as a Dragon Dance group, the character depicted by the dancers is a lion; and
11 WHEREAS, all of the dancers in the Woodlawn Lion Dance Team belong to the
12Vietnamese Community Church in Marrero; the team's leaders are former dancers, and they
13use their experience to train new members; and
14 WHEREAS, the Woodlawn Lion Dance Team bases its movements on traditional
15Vietnamese dances with the incorporation of new steps; this artistic expression has become
16a historical and cultural heritage for the growing Vietnamese community in Louisiana; and
17 WHEREAS, the Woodlawn Lion Dance Team merits a special measure of
18commendation upon its induction into the 2016 Louisiana Folklife Center Hall of Master
19Folk Artists.
20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
21Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Woodlawn Lion Dance Team upon its

1induction into the 2016 Louisiana Folklife Center Hall of Master Folk Artists and does
2hereby extend to the team members every good wish for continued success, prosperity, and
3happiness in the future.
4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
5to the Woodlawn Lion Dance Team.
