HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 239

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Phi Kappa Psi Louisiana Alpha Chapter upon the celebration of its fiftieth
anniversary at Louisiana State University.
WHEREAS, on May 7, 1966, the Phi Kappa Psi Louisiana Alpha Chapter was
founded on the principle of the great joy of serving others; and
WHEREAS, initiates in Phi Kappa Psi have dedicated themselves to the lifelong task
of being men of honor, striving manfully for moral, spiritual, and academic excellence; and
WHEREAS, Phi Kappa Psi, also called "Phi Psi", is an American collegiate social
fraternity founded at Jefferson College in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, on February 19, 1852;
and
WHEREAS, there are one hundred four chapters and four colonies of the Phi Kappa
Psi fraternity at accredited four-year colleges and universities throughout the United States,
and more than one hundred twelve thousand men have been initiated into Phi Kappa Psi
since its founding; and
WHEREAS, Phi Kappa Psi has been heavily involved with Louisiana State
University's Interfraternity Council, and numerous members have served in various
leadership roles; and
WHEREAS, the nearly one hundred fifty members of Phi Kappa Psi Louisiana Alpha
Chapter comprise one of the largest memberships of all Phi Kappa Psi organizations; and
WHEREAS, the brothers of the Phi Kappa Psi Louisiana Alpha Chapter graciously
perform more than one thousand hours of community service annually; and
WHEREAS, every year, in collaboration with the Panhellenic Council, Phi Kappa
Psi hosts a Halloween Carnival, and hundreds of children from the surrounding area
participate in the event; and

WHEREAS, the grade point average and graduation rates for the men of Phi Kappa
Psi are higher than the averages for collegiate males, and it is fitting to commend the men
of the Phi Kappa Psi Louisiana Alpha Chapter for their contributions to the community and
to congratulate them upon their fiftieth anniversary.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana Alpha Chapter of Phi Kappa
Psi upon the celebration of its fiftieth anniversary at Louisiana State University and does
hereby extend to all Phi Kappa Psi members best wishes for continued success and happiness
in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the president of the Phi Kappa Psi Louisiana Alpha Chapter.
