Louisiana Caregiver Day at the state capitol
1 A RESOLUTION
2To designate Wednesday, March 23, 2016, as AARP Louisiana Caregiver Day at the state
3 capitol.
4 WHEREAS, Louisiana ranks thirty-seventh in the nation for support of unpaid family
5caregivers; and
6 WHEREAS, an estimated six hundred twenty-seven thousand family caregivers in
7Louisiana provide care to adult relatives or friends, with the economic value of this care
8estimated to be roughly five billion seven hundred million dollars annually; and
9 WHEREAS, almost all older adults who need assistance with the activities of daily
10living wish to remain in their homes and communities as they age; and
11 WHEREAS, almost three-fourths of older people who live in a community and who
12receive personal assistance rely exclusively on unpaid caregivers for help.
13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
14Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Wednesday, March 23, 2016, as AARP
15Louisiana Caregiver Day at the state capitol.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
17to Andrew Muhl, director of advocacy at AARP Louisiana.
