HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 241
BY REPRESENTATIVE SMITH
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Dr. Susanne Jensen, recipient of the 2016 Distinguished
Psychologist Award from the Louisiana Psychological Association
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend Dr. Susanne Jensen upon receiving the 2016 Distinguished Psychologist
3 Award from the Louisiana Psychological Association.
4 WHEREAS, Dr. Susanne Jensen received her Ph.D. from the University of Bonn in
5Germany in 1963 and came to the United States for further study and professional
6development on a Fulbright Fellowship; and
7 WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen chose to make Louisiana her home and to become a citizen
8of the United States; and
9 WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen served with distinction as the clinical director for Mental
10Health Services at the Louisiana State University Student Health Center from 1975-1990;
11and
12 WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen was adjunct associate professor in the Department of
13Epidemiology and Community Health at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary
14Medicine from 1980-1990; and
15 WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen was the cofounder of and a consultant from 1970-1989 for
16'The Phone', which is now known as the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center; and
17 WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen served on the steering committee for the faculty and staff
18human development group at Louisiana State University from 1970-1980; was a member of
19the Louisiana State Board of Examiners of Psychologists from 1974-1975; was president of
20the Louisiana Group Psychotherapy Society from 1978-1980; and served as a director of the
21World Council for Psychotherapy and was the vice president for North America in 2002; and

1 WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen established the Group Psychotherapy Training Program at
2the Louisiana State University Mental Health Center, where she mentored psychology, social
3work, and pastoral counseling students throughout the years; and
4 WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen was named Woman of the Year in 2003 by the American
5Group Psychotherapy Association, Women's Task Force; she received the 2013 Lifetime
6Achievement Award from the Louisiana Group Psychotherapy Society; and the Susanne M.
7Jensen Scholarship was established in her honor; and
8 WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen has been a loyal member of the Louisiana Psychological
9Association and the American Psychology Association throughout her career, has presented
10at national and international conferences throughout the world, and has numerous
11publications to her credit; and
12 WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen has been in the private practice of clinical psychology since
131990, and it is fitting to commend her many accomplishments upon receiving the 2016
14Distinguished Psychologist Award from the Louisiana Psychological Association.
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
16Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Dr. Susanne Jensen, recipient of the 2016
17Distinguished Psychologist Award from the Louisiana Psychological Association and does
18hereby express best wishes for continued future success.
19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
20to Dr. Susanne Jensen.
