HLS 16RS-1567 ORIGINAL 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 25 BY REPRESENTATIVE SMITH COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Madison Preparatory Academy Chargers boys' basketball team on its second consecutive state championship 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend the Madison Preparatory Academy boys' basketball team upon winning its 3 second consecutive state championship and to congratulate the Madison Prep 4 Chargers on an outstanding 2015-2016 season. 5 WHEREAS, the Madison Preparatory Academy boys' basketball team has ascended 6to a place of prominence in the ranks of Louisiana high school sports by winning the 2016 7Class 2A state crown at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Louisiana High School Athletic Association 8Boys' Top 28 championship, its first Class 2A title, second consecutive state championship, 9and third state title in four years; and 10 WHEREAS, the 2015-2016 Madison Prep basketball season was nothing short of 11sensational when the Chargers defeated three-time defending state champion Riverside by 12a score of 41-33, a game in which the dominating defense of Madison Prep smothered 13Riverside into a tie for lowest overall point total in Class 2A Top 28 games and for fewest 14in a quarter with only two points scored in the third; and 15 WHEREAS, Chargers sophomore forward Josh LeBlanc was named the game's Most 16Outstanding Player after logging nine points, fourteen rebounds, three assists, two blocks 17and a steal; and 18 WHEREAS, the 2016 championship title was earned with the incredible talent and 19effort of the team's coaching staff and members who exhibited their athletic gifts throughout 20the season and in the championship game; and Page 1 of 3 HLS 16RS-1567 ORIGINAL HR NO. 25 1 WHEREAS, the 2015-2016 team members and coaching staff of Madison 2Preparatory Academy merit recognition and congratulations for their outstanding 3performances and the competitive spirit that led them to capture their first Class 2A state 4championship after moving up from Class 1A; Head Coach Jeff Jones, Assistant Coaches 5Torry Beaulieu, Chetwin Carter, James Ross, and Karl Washington; Team Manager Amin 6Gauthier; senior athletes De'Marrius Antoine, Marquis Browder, Justin Garner, Yuryk 7Lazard, William Loyd, Jamel Robinson, and Delvin Spann; juniors Josh Anderson, Edwon 8Brady, Troy James, Jeff Jones, Brian Savoie, and Tasmin Walker; sophomores Josh 9LeBlanc, Kobe Julien, Tyresse Walker, and Jharon Whitfield; and freshman Marcus Guss 10all contributed to the culmination of a season with thirty-four wins against only four losses 11and a perfect 8-0 record in district play; and 12 WHEREAS, the Louisiana House of Representatives wishes to recognize the three- 13time state champion Chargers and commends the entire team for the extraordinary ability 14they have displayed at this difficult level of competition over the past four years, and to 15express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to the athletes and coaching staff for the merits 16earned and the sportsmanship shown while achieving this high honor for Madison 17Preparatory Academy and its local community. 18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 19Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Madison Preparatory Academy boys' 20basketball team upon its memorable and historic victory in the 2016 Class 2A state 21championship and does hereby extend best wishes to the athletes, coaches, and everyone 22involved with this prestigious basketball program as they celebrate their outstanding 23achievements and prepare for continued success in the future. 24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 25to Head Coach Jeff Jones.
