SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes the La. Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
and designates Tuesday, March 29, 2016, as Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day
at the state capitol
1 A RESOLUTION
2To recognize the efforts of the Louisiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and to
3 designate Tuesday, March 29, 2016, as Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day at the
4 state capitol.
5 WHEREAS, since 1987, the Louisiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (LAND)
6has diligently represented the interests of registered dietitians practicing in the state of
7Louisiana; and
8 WHEREAS, LAND is a member-driven organization whose sole function is to help
9in improving the health and lifestyles of all Louisianans; and
10 WHEREAS, LAND is made up of nine district affiliates throughout Louisiana, and
11the organization's board of directors includes representation by members from across the
12state and from a variety of professional settings including hospitals, schools, government,
13and many other areas of practice; and
14 WHEREAS, over one thousand three hundred registered dietitian nutritionists
15practice in Louisiana; and
16 WHEREAS, the registered dietitians of this state are deeply committed to and
17involved in the communities they serve, and play an essential role in providing nutrition
18education and services to improve the health and well-being of all persons whom they serve;
19and
20 WHEREAS, the mission of the LAND is to empower registered dietitians to be food
21and nutrition leaders in our state and in our nation; and

1 WHEREAS, LAND's state government relations efforts include testifying before
2legislative committees and building coalitions with other healthcare groups; and
3 WHEREAS, LAND is an affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, which
4is the world's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals; and
5 WHEREAS, LAND exists to improve the state's health and advance the profession
6of dietetics through research, education, and advocacy; and this subsidiary offers a wide
7variety of services, including seminars and conferences, to meet members' specific training
8needs; and
9 WHEREAS, on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, LAND is hosting Registered Dietitian
10Nutritionist Day at the state capitol with numerous registered dietitian nutritionists from
11across the state of Louisiana in attendance.
12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
13Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize the extraordinary efforts and contributions
14of the Louisiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and does hereby designate Tuesday,
15March 29, 2016, as Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day at the state capitol.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
17to the president of the Louisiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
