ENROLLED 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 34 BY REPRESENTATIVE SCHEXNAYDER A RESOLUTION To commend the Cazenave Motor Company in Vacherie upon its one hundredth year of continuous operation. WHEREAS, the Cazenave Motor Company was conceived in 1915, when Woodrow Wilson was president of the United States, Babe Ruth hit his first career home run, and the British ocean liner Lusitania was sunk by a German submarine; and WHEREAS, Etienne Victor Cazenave, Sr., answered a Ford Motor Company newspaper ad seeking distributors for its Ford vehicles, and at the age of twenty-seven, Mr. Cazenave started Cazenave Motor Company in a wooden one-car garage in Wallace with three Model T Fords on consignment; and WHEREAS, in 1925, Mr. Cazenave moved his business to an iconic, long-leaf pine and red brick building he had built on River Road in Vacherie, and that building still stands; and WHEREAS, Cazenave Motor Company is a family affair: Roland "Bud" Cazenave, son of Etienne, earned a degree from LSU in business agriculture, was in the Army ROTC, served with the 1st Armored Division at Anzio Beach Head in Africa and in Italy, and worked for a bank before joining his father's business; and WHEREAS, after attending Loyola University, Etienne Victor "E.V." Jr., joined the company; in the early 1970s, a third generation of Cazenaves, Bud's son Jimmy and E.V. Jr.'s sons Steven and Paul, began working in the family business, and several years ago, Jimmy's son, Jody, and Steven's son, Brett, became the fourth generation of Cazenaves to make their mark at Cazenave Motor Company; and WHEREAS, three of four Cazenave sisters have worked in parts and bookkeeping and another Cazenave grandson, Mackie Waguespack, greeted customers; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 34 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the longevity of the company is attributed to service and honesty by long-time co-owner E.V. Jr., who at the age of eighty-seven still works each day; the dealership has won the Ford Chairman's Award, the highest dealer award in the nation several times, and proudly displays a letter from William Clay Ford, Jr., Ford Company's executive chairman, heralding Cazenave Motor Company for one hundred years of continuous family ownership and superior customer care. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Cazenave family for its contributions to the community of Vacherie across one hundred years of operation of Cazenave Motor Company and does hereby express best wishes for continued prosperity in the years to come.
