HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 35

A RESOLUTION
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Royce E.
Williford.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the death of Royce
E. Williford on Friday, March 11, 2016, at the age of eighty-three; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Williford served on the Avoyelles Parish School Board for twelve
years and as president of the school board for eight years; for thirty-one dedicated years, he
drove a school bus for Rapides Parish; and
WHEREAS, he was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and the Pine Grove
Cemetery Board; and
WHEREAS, as a cattleman and crop farmer, Mr. Williford enjoyed raising Brahman
cattle, horses, and pigs; he also found joy in deer hunting with his dogs; and
WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Lynn Williford; his
parents, Starlin and Bernice Hines Williford; and his brother, Ray Williford; and
WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Karen Williford; his son,
Pete Williford; his sister, Nelwyn Perkins; and his sister-in-law, Katherine Williford; and
WHEREAS, with the death of Mr. Williford, Louisiana has lost one her finest
citizens; and
WHEREAS, although the death of Royce E. Williford has left a tremendous void in
his community, his memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and
loved him.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the
death of Royce E. Williford; does hereby record for posterity his outstanding
accomplishments and singular contributions; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation
for the tremendous pride and honor that this wonderful man will forever bring to his family
and friends, his community, and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the family of Royce E. Williford.
