HLS 16RS-2082 ORIGINAL 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 45 BY REPRESENTATIVE HOFFMANN SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Commends the Community Provider Association for serving citizens with disabilities and recognizes the week of April 4, 2016, as Community Provider Association week at the state capitol 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend the Community Provider Association for serving citizens with disabilities and 3 to recognize the week of April 4, 2016, as Community Provider Association week 4 at the state capitol. 5 WHEREAS, services to individuals with disabilities are referred to generally as 6"long-term supports and services"; and 7 WHEREAS, long-term supports and services include assistance with activities of 8daily living such as getting dressed, taking medication, preparing meals, and managing 9money; and 10 WHEREAS, long-term supports and services are critical for individuals with 11disabilities to reach their highest potential in terms of health, education, employment, and 12overall quality of life; and 13 WHEREAS, community providers are agencies that provide a spectrum of long-term 14supports and services to individuals with disabilities; and 15 WHEREAS, these supports and services include, without limitation, the following: 16 (1) Case management and support coordination. 17 (2) In-home supports and services. 18 (3) Residential and facility-based supports. 19 (4) Day habilitation and community access training. 20 (5) Extended follow-along and support in the competitive job market; and Page 1 of 3 HLS 16RS-2082 ORIGINAL HR NO. 45 1 WHEREAS, community providers serve individuals of all ages including newborns 2receiving early intervention services, school-age children, transition-age youth, working 3adults, and those who are aging; and 4 WHEREAS, the Community Provider Association was created in 2014 through the 5merging of three other associations, and is now the largest organization of its kind in 6Louisiana; and 7 WHEREAS, collectively, the members of the Community Provider Association serve 8over twelve thousand individuals with disabilities in this state and employ over ten thousand 9Louisiana workers; and 10 WHEREAS, the Community Provider Association promotes optimal funding, 11program integrity, and public policy enabling its members to deliver quality services to 12people with disabilities in all community-based service models; and 13 WHEREAS, the Community Provider Association encourages the professional 14growth of community providers and promotes the highest standards of quality and ethics; 15and 16 WHEREAS, the Community Provider Association provides current and relevant 17information to its member agencies, and also serves as a vehicle and a forum for the unified 18expression of opinions and positions by providers upon matters or events of concern to the 19provider community overall; and 20 WHEREAS, with an increase in the number of children being diagnosed with autism 21and an increasing aging population, disability services providers will play an increasingly 22significant role in improving the health, education, recreation, and employment opportunities 23for Louisiana citizens in the future. 24 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 25Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Community Provider Association and 26its member organizations for serving citizens with disabilities in our state. 27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature 28of Louisiana does hereby recognize the week of April 4, 2016, as Community Provider 29Association week at the state capitol.
