COMMENDATIONS: Commends Porter May upon being named Louisiana Private School
Middle School Student of the Year
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Porter May upon being named Louisiana Private School Middle School
3 Student of the Year.
4 WHEREAS, Porter May is the son of Brooks and Mary Emily "May-May" May and
5is an eighth grade student at First Baptist Church School in Shreveport; and
6 WHEREAS, in February of 2016, Porter won the school level Student of the Year
7competition; he went on to compete at the regional level with other regional private school
8winners; and
9 WHEREAS, after the judging of Porter's portfolio and a panel review, he was
10selected as the Regional Private School Middle School Student of the Year and moved on
11to the state competition; and
12 WHEREAS, at the state competition, Porter's portfolio was reviewed, he wrote an
13extemporaneous essay, and he was interviewed by a panel of three judges, all resulting in
14his selection as Louisiana Private School Middle School Student of the Year; and
15 WHEREAS, Porter is one of six regional finalists for the title of 2016 Middle School
16Student of the Year; and
17 WHEREAS, Porter exhibits leadership, character, and integrity in school and in his
18community; he serves as vice president of Student Council, had the lead role in his school's
19production of The Aristocats, Jr., and he is on the basketball team; and

1 WHEREAS, Porter has also participated in Boy Scouts, Operation Christmas Child,
2Maggie Lee for Good, and he has volunteered for Gingerbread House, Holy Angels, and the
3Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana; and
4 WHEREAS, Porter May is a talented Louisiana student who demonstrates
5impeccable leadership and a commitment to excellence that is truly commendable, and he
6is most deserving of being named Louisiana Private School Middle School Student of the
7Year.
8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
9Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Porter May upon being named Louisiana
10Private School Middle School Student of the Year; does hereby recognize his remarkable
11academic and community service accomplishments; and does hereby wish Porter full
12measures of success and happiness in the years to come.
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
14to Porter May.
