ENROLLED 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 66 BY REPRESENTATIVE MIKE JOHNSON A RESOLUTION To commend Porter May upon being named Louisiana Private School Middle School Student of the Year. WHEREAS, Porter May is the son of Brooks and Mary Emily "May-May" May and is an eighth grade student at First Baptist Church School in Shreveport; and WHEREAS, in February of 2016, Porter won the school level Student of the Year competition; he went on to compete at the regional level with other regional private school winners; and WHEREAS, after the judging of Porter's portfolio and a panel review, he was selected as the Regional Private School Middle School Student of the Year and moved on to the state competition; and WHEREAS, at the state competition, Porter's portfolio was reviewed, he wrote an extemporaneous essay, and he was interviewed by a panel of three judges, all resulting in his selection as Louisiana Private School Middle School Student of the Year; and WHEREAS, Porter is one of six regional finalists for the title of 2016 Middle School Student of the Year; and WHEREAS, Porter exhibits leadership, character, and integrity in school and in his community; he serves as vice president of Student Council, had the lead role in his school's production of The Aristocats, Jr., and he is on the basketball team; and WHEREAS, Porter has also participated in Boy Scouts, Operation Christmas Child, Maggie Lee for Good, and he has volunteered for Gingerbread House, Holy Angels, and the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 66 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Porter May is a talented Louisiana student who demonstrates impeccable leadership and a commitment to excellence that is truly commendable, and he is most deserving of being named Louisiana Private School Middle School Student of the Year. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Porter May upon being named Louisiana Private School Middle School Student of the Year; does hereby recognize his remarkable academic and community service accomplishments; and does hereby wish Porter full measures of success and happiness in the years to come.
