HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 7

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the Holden High School girls' basketball team upon
winning the 2016 Class B state championship
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Holden High School girls' basketball team for winning the 2016 Class B
3 state championship.
4 WHEREAS, the Holden High School girls' basketball team completed a sensational
52015-2016 season when they earned the title of Class B state champions after defeating
6Florien High School by a final score of 42-34 in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Louisiana High
7School Athletic Association Girls Top 28 Tournament in Hammond; and
8 WHEREAS, the win against Florien marked the first state championship since 2006
9for the Lady Rockets and the fifth championship title in program history for Holden High
10School; and
11 WHEREAS, the Holden girls' team finished the 2015-2016 season with twenty-six
12wins, six losses, and a 4-0 district record; and
13 WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest levels of excellence
14throughout the season, and each Lady Rocket deserves recognition for her vital contributions
15to the winning effort; and
16 WHEREAS, seniors Kassie Cox and Sydney Hayden; juniors Brooke Thompson and
17Montori Weber; sophomores Cierra Bennett, Amanda Fekete, Kaylee Hughes, Kaitlyn
18Kropog, and Victoria Richardson; freshmen Shelby and Taylor Forbes, and Alyssa Sykes;
19and eighth graders Emma Hutchinson and Jaycee Hughes, comported themselves
20magnificently in the title game; and

1 WHEREAS, Kaitlyn Kropog's thirteen points and two steals in the championship
2game resulted in her being named the Outstanding Player of the Game; and
3 WHEREAS, head coaches Pam and Craig Forbes have instilled an ethic of winning
4in these young women athletes, and have demonstrated leadership and motivational skills
5that have led to success both on and off the court for the Holden Lady Rockets; and
6 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the Lady Rockets
7have earned; to commend the team for the ability they have displayed, particularly at the
8most difficult level of competition; and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to
9the team members and coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship shown
10while achieving the highest state girls' basketball honor possible for Holden High School.
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
12Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the athletes and coaching
13staff of the Holden High School girls' basketball team for winning the 2016 Class B state
14basketball championship, capping off a truly spectacular season; and does hereby recognize
15the team's outstanding performance and the pride and honor they have brought to their
16school and community.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
18to head coaches Pam and Craig Forbes.
