HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 86
BY REPRESENTATIVE HILL
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Merryville High School girls' basketball team upon reaching the 2015-
2016 Class 1A championship.
WHEREAS, for the first time in the history of Merryville High School, the 2015-
2016 girls' basketball team made it to the state finals; and
WHEREAS, the Merryville High School girls' basketball team capped its sensational
season of thirty-two wins against one loss by competing in the Allstate Sugar Bowl
Louisiana High School Athletic Association Top 28 Class 1A title game and gave Number 1
seed Arcadia an exceptional battle, ultimately falling 66-62 to the 2015-2016 Class 1A
champs; and
WHEREAS, head coach Mark Perow, ably assisted by assistant coach Molly Slaydon
and team managers Rosie Jeans, Lakeitha Hopkins, and Marcus Perow, guided the
Merryville Lady Panthers to a 14-0 record in the district, a district championship, and have
instilled in their players the kind of leadership and motivational skills needed to succeed
both on and off the court; and
WHEREAS, sophomore Andrea Cournoyer, Class 1A Most Outstanding Player and
one of the state's top scorers with an average of more than thirty points per game, tossed in
thirty-five points in a valiant effort for Merryville; in the tournament, Ms. Cournoyer broke
a forty-nine-year-old record for the most combined points scored by a Class 1A player in the
Top 28 with sixty-nine points; and

WHEREAS, the 2015-2016 Merryville High School girls' basketball team consists
of Caitlin Bateman, Carlye Blackmon, Ja'Cinda Carter, Andrea Cournoyer, Alyssa Duncan,
Shakietha Hill, Mekyah Hooper, Lillian Jeans, Raeleigh Joshlin, Kaylie Lewis, Maddie
Mahfouz, Katie McCann, Jenna Reeves, Jania Williams, and Kelsie Williams; and
WHEREAS, through its display of good sportsmanship and dedication to excellence,
the Merryville High School girls' basketball team has brought a tremendous sense of honor
and pride to its school and surrounding community.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Merryville High School girls' basketball
team upon reaching the 2015-2016 Class 1A state championship and becoming the state
runner-up; does hereby express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to the Lady Panthers
in recognition of their outstanding athletic abilities and their thrilling season; and does
hereby extend to the team and its coaches best wishes for continued success in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Mark Perow, head coach of the Merryville High School girls' basketball team.
