ENROLLED 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 88 BY REPRESENTATIVE GLOVER A RESOLUTION To commend the Reverend Clarence E. Glover, Jr., on his many accomplishments on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday. WHEREAS, the Reverend Glover is one of America's most respected voices on issues pertaining to African American history and culture, intercultural relations, and racism, and is also noted for his seminars and lectures on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the civil rights movement; and WHEREAS, in 1986, the Reverend Glover served as interviewer and consultant for "In Remembrance of Martin", a PBS documentary on the first national Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday observance; and WHEREAS, the Reverend Glover has lectured at universities, colleges, conferences, and public, private, and governmental agencies throughout the United States and the Caribbean, including the National Conference on Racial and Ethnic Relations in Higher Education, the National Society of Black Engineers, the National Black Studies Conference of the U.S. Department of Education, Harvard University, Rutgers University, the University of Notre Dame, the University of Alabama, and the Internal Revenue Service; and WHEREAS, the Reverend Glover was coordinator of leadership development for Dallas Independent School District (DISD); he also served as executive director of Multicultural Education for Dallas public schools, and as special assistant to the general superintendent, intercultural relations; and WHEREAS, before coming to DISD, the Reverend Glover served as director of intercultural Education and Minority Student Affairs at Southern Methodist University (SMU), where he supervised and worked with coordinators of African American, Asian American, and Hispanic students in developing strategies for creating a positive intercultural atmosphere on campus among faculty, staff, and students; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 88 ENROLLED WHEREAS, from 1980 to 1990, the Reverend Glover was coordinator of Intercultural Programs and African American Student Affairs at SMU, where he was responsible for development of curriculum design and the implementation of the African American Studies course entitled "Black and White"; and WHEREAS, while at SMU, the Reverend Glover was an adjunct professor for African American Studies from 1987 to 1993; and WHEREAS, the Reverend Glover is responsible for drafting the diversity harassment policies for SMU and Dallas public schools, both of which were among the nation's first such policies in education; and WHEREAS, the Reverend Glover is the recipient of the "M" Award, which is the most highly prized recognition bestowed upon students, faculty, staff, and administrators at SMU; and WHEREAS, the Reverend Glover has a bachelor of arts degree from Grambling State University, as well as a masters of theological studies degree from the Perkins School of Theology at SMU, with a concentration in African American Religion and Culture, and is also a graduate of the Harvard University Graduate Institute on School Climate and Governance with a concentration in Moral Education and Human Development. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Reverend Clarence E. Glover, Jr., for his many accomplishments on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday, and also commends him for his tireless work to assist segments of our society address multicultural issues.
