SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates the month of April as Sarcoidosis Awareness
Month
1 A RESOLUTION
2To designate the month of April as Sarcoidosis Awareness Month in Louisiana.
3 WHEREAS, sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease that can affect almost any organ
4in the body and causes heightened immunity, which means that a person's immune system,
5which normally protects the body from infection and disease, overreacts, resulting in damage
6to the body's own tissues; and
7 WHEREAS, the classic feature of sarcoidosis is the formation of granulomas,
8microscopic clumps of inflammatory cells that group together; and
9 WHEREAS, sarcoidosis can affect people of any age, race, and gender but it is most
10prevalent among adults between the ages of twenty and forty, in African Americans and
11people of European, particularly Scandinavian descent; and
12 WHEREAS, the mission of The Sarcoidosis Awareness Foundation of Louisiana is
13to educate, raise awareness, and raise funds to promote research to find the cause, cure, and
14new medications to aid those suffering from sarcoidosis; and
15 WHEREAS, the foundation provides support to families, friends, and caregivers
16through awareness, education, emotional support, and understanding; and
17 WHEREAS, the foundation also provides mutual sharing of experiences, discussion
18of feelings, and sharing of coping strategies and encouragement, and supports research to
19find the cure and prevention that will improve the quality of life for those affected by
20sarcoidosis; and

1 WHEREAS, during the entire month of April the citizens of Louisiana are
2encouraged to learn about the causes and effects of sarcoidosis.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
4Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate the month of April as Sarcoidosis Awareness
5Month in Louisiana.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
7to Rodney K. Reese, Founder and CEO of The Sarcoidosis Awareness Foundation of
8Louisiana, Inc.
