SENATE BILL NO. 115

SCHOOLS.  Requires charter schools in certain parishes to follow the student holiday
schedule established by the parish school board. (gov sig)
1	AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 17:3995.1, relative to the operation of charter schools; to require charter
3 schools in certain parishes to adhere to the student holiday schedule established by
4 the parish school board; to provide for effectiveness; and to provide for related
5 matters.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 17:3995.1 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
8 ยง3995.1. Uniform student holiday schedule
9	Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, every charter school located
10 in a parish that contains a municipality with a population of three hundred
11 thousand or more persons, according to the latest federal decennial census, shall
12 adhere to the schedule for single and multi-day student holidays established by
13 the school board of the parish in which the school is located.
14 Section 2. This Act shall be known as the Louisiana Uniform School Holiday Act.
15 Section 3. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
16 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
17 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If

1 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
2 effective on the day following such approval.

Proposed law requires every charter school located in a parish that contains a municipality
with a population of 300,000 or more persons, according to the latest federal decennial
census, to adhere to the student holiday schedule established by the school board of the
parish in which the school is located.
Proposed law shall be known as the "Louisiana Uniform School Holiday Act".
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
