SENATE BILL NO. 225

FUNDS/FUNDING.  Requires the legislative and judicial branches to make their budgets
available online to the public. (gov sig)
1	AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 39:51(D), relative to legislative and judicial budgets; to provide
3 for public distribution; and to provide for related matters.
4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
5 Section 1.  R.S. 39:51(D) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
6 ยง51. General Appropriation Bill; other apportionment bills

8	D. The bill appropriating funds for the expenses of the legislature and the bill
9 appropriating funds for the expenses of the judiciary shall be submitted by the
10 legislature and the judiciary, respectively, for introduction no later than forty-five
11 days prior to each regular session of the legislature, except that during the first year
12 of each term they shall be submitted no later than thirty days prior to the regular
13 session of the legislature. The bill appropriating funds for the expenses of the
14 legislature and the bill appropriating funds for the expenses of the judiciary shall
15 include a comparative statement of the existing operating budget for the current
16 fiscal year and the appropriations for the ensuing fiscal year.  At the same time as
17 the legislative and judicial budgets are submitted for introduction, they shall be

1 made available for public distribution through electronic media.

3 Section 2.  This Act shall become effective upon signature of the governor or, if not
4 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
5 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana.  If
6 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
7 effective on the day following such approval.
