Present law provides for ameliorative penalty provisions and parole eligibility.
Proposed law retains present law and provides that unless eligible for parole consideration at an
earlier date, a person committed to the Department of Public Safety and Corrections, if eligible for
relief under certain ameliorative penalty provisions, including those serving a life sentence with or
without additional terms of years, will be eligible for parole consideration upon serving 15 years in
actual custody.
Effective August 1, 2016.
