SENATE BILL NO. 268

MOTOR VEHICLES.  Establishes a fixed period after establishing residency in Louisiana
to have a vehicle registered and inspected. (8/1/16)
1	AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 47:513.2, relative to motor vehicles; to provide a fixed period for registration
3 and inspection of motor vehicles of new residents; and to provide for related matters.
4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
5 Section 1.  R.S. 47:513.2 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 
6 ยง513.2.  New residents; registration; inspection
7	A. Any person who is a new resident of Louisiana shall apply for a
8 certificate of registration for each motor vehicle he owns and operates on the
9 public streets and roadways in Louisiana within thirty days of the date he
10 establishes residency in Louisiana.
11	B. Any motor vehicle owned and operated by a new resident of Louisiana
12 on the public streets and roadways in Louisiana shall bear a valid safety
13 inspection certificate within thirty days of the date he establishes residency in
14 Louisiana.
15	C. "Establishes residency" as used in this Section shall mean issuance of
16 a Louisiana driver's license.

Proposed law requires a new resident of Louisiana to apply for a certificate of registration
for each motor vehicle he owns and operates on the public streets and roadways in Louisiana
within thirty days of the date he establishes residency in Louisiana.
Proposed law requires any motor vehicle owned and operated by a new resident of Louisiana
on the public streets and roadways in Louisiana to bear a valid safety inspection certificate
within thirty days of the date he establishes residency in Louisiana.
Proposed law defines "establishes residency" to mean issuance of a Louisiana driver's
license.
Effective August 1, 2016.
